September 5 - 8

Happy Labor Day!
We had an exciting and successful first week of school! It's been wonderful getting to know each student and learning procedures to help build a stronger classroom community! Each student should have a "good fit" book in his or her backpack. 4th graders are encouraged to read for 20 minutes or more at home each night. Once the reading is finished, students need to record the minutes and pages read. Please sign your initials on the bookmark. The bookmark is not intended to be a reading log. Research does not support the use of reading logs to promote life-long readers. It's meant to track each child's reading rate to ensure they are finishing the books they start. This is one example of how students can earn "yards" and eventually score a touchdown! This is also a wonderful way to continue the conversation with your child about what is needed for school each day.
Thank you for the classroom donations! We have a long year, and your kindness is appreciated. Currently, we are all set! Thank you for sending a snack and water bottle each day. As a reminder, here is the Safe Snacks List. Fresh fruits and veggies can be sent in cut up in Ziplock bags. If you have a safe snack that is not listed, please send me a picture of the front and the label and I will make sure it's checked. Thanks for your help to keep everyone safe & healthy!
Testing for the NWEA will begin on Tuesday, September 12th. Students will take the NWEA in math and reading. We will begin testing each day at 9:00. We hope all testing is completed by the end of the week. Please consider not scheduling appointments if possible. Students can bring in gum or mints to have during the test. I will send a list of safe gum & mints in next week's blog! The results from the testing are beneficial for our teacher team to use to get to know your child as a learner and begin to set learning goals.
If your child is interested in the Safety Patrol Program. Below is the parent permission Google form.
Have a fantastic Week!
If your child is interested in being a Safety Patrol Officer for this school year please fill out the form below. Safety Patrollers help ensure that children cross the streets safely before and after school. This responsibility means that they must be at their assigned post at 8:10 every morning and stay at the post until about 4:05 p.m., for the week they are assigned. Students who ride the bus will start the bus patrol when they get off the bus in the morning and before they get on the bus in the afternoon. Please fill out the Safety Patrol Parent Permission Google form if your child is able to participate in this program. Please click on this link to fill out the form.
